totally gross

I know that with being pregnant, and all the good that comes along with that - kicks, rolly-polly, cute belly, eventual baby - there are some less-than-good symptoms that can happen. Some you hear about, and some that no one seems to want to acknowledge.

I've been very lucky so far. Other than some queasiness and food aversions (which ended early in the 2nd tri), and some sporadic leg cramps and hip pain at night, I've been relatively symptom-free.

But over that last few weeks, I've had this really odd thing happen. Not just odd, but gross. Totally gross, in fact.

I've been woken up out of a dead sleep by the sensation of bile quickly rising in my throat, about to spew all over me. Ewwww. And I don't feel nauseous, this is not a queasy thing. Its just throwing up out of nowhere. While I'm sleeping, for goodness sakes!!

Let me also say, to me, vomiting is one of the worst experiences known to man and woman. I HATE to throw up. I will do anything to avoid it. I have strong throat muscles and will will-power through most potential throw-up episodes. I just will not do it.

So this new pregnancy "trick" is really upsetting me. I wake up, go quickly upright (not so easy at 28 weeks!) and swallow. Yuck. One time, I even aspirated some yuckiness, and ended up coughing for 20 minutes. Super yuck.

What the hell is this? I've never read about this anywhere - have others had this? I was able to avoid the pukes during the 1st tri, only to get them now? Blech.

Good thing I already love this critter girl so much. I know she is worth it, but seriously, girl, if you could do something to make this stop, I'd really appreciate it!

  1. Um, I had it, too. Sleeping upright was the only thing that kept it from happening, though I did figure out a few trigger foods - chocolate! - that caused it for me. Went away immediately after delivery, but yeah - totally sucked.

  3. I had no idea the pukes could set in at this point in pregnancy! YUCK! I did not avoid the first (and second) trimester morning sickness, so I definitely feel your pain. NOT FUN.

  4. I didn't have this, but did have really bad heartburn. It's just little critter girl take up more room and forcing your organs up. Things are getting tighter in there and things get squished. Wait till the last few weeks, eek!

  5. Oh Pie... that sounds horrible! I have no advice for you but hope that your girl is able to intervene and put an end to this yuckiness.

  6. Ahhhh yes,
    damn reflux-a-mundo.
So, you'll need to sleep propped up, no kidding-- and please mention this to your doc next visit too- sometimes an antacid sort of thing can help too.
I just barf into my mouth (SORRY) burning hell and throat trauma, but propping myself up (we're talking 3-4 pillows here, nearly sitting) is the only solution.
    I am so sorry!
hope you find a great way to manage this that does not drive you crazy.

    good luck!

  8. It could be acid reflux without the heartburn...just a crazy guess. I hate throwing up, too. My body doesn't deal well with it at all. Maybe try some milk before bed? Or maybe sleep at a little more of an incline. I'm just passing out assvice here since I have no idea what I'm really talking about. I hope it doesn't get any worse for you.

  12. Definitely reflux. Thankfully it only happened to me a couple times, but it was horrible. Sleeping on an incline is probably the only solution, but speak with your OB.

  14. my midwife always said three things cause heartburn/reflux like this: onions, tomatoes, and chocolate! So avoid all three and you might feel better.

  15. It's definitely gross. I was sitting at my desk one day and just sprayed it all over the place. Icky, icky. Mine only lasted a month so I will send out no more reflux vibes for you too!!

  16. Can anyone say R-E-F-L-U-X ?? Elevate the head of your bed.... works WONDERS !! Check with your OB.... I experienced this (to a somewhat lesser degree) while preggo with my twins, and my Dr. gave me a Reglan type med that was ok to take while the babies were cooking. Good Luck
