More drama, yet again

Sorry to not post for a few days, but it has been a bit nutso around here. The beautiful critter girl is in the NICU, has been since Thursday AM for pretty bad jaundice. While jaundice is very common, hers is a pretty bad case. She is under 3 phototherapy lights now, 24/7, and we're hoping her levels come down soon.

She will stay in the hospital til at least Sunday, while I may be discharged today. Ugh. I'm not going anywhere though, so we will be squatters at the hospital. My milk came in yesterday too, so we've been breastfeeding her, and I've also been pumping to supplement it. So I can't go anywhere, she needs her meals from me every 3 hours.

Stay tuned, the drama never ends.

  1. Ugh, I'm sorry. I know you know that jaundice is really common and they're very good at treating it, but still - sucky for you and scary that she's got such a bad case. Keeping you both in my thoughts & hoping she gets to come home with you soon.

  2. Oh goodness. Added stress on top of what is already a stressful situation. But at least jaundice is something common and doctors know exactly what needs to be done. So it sounds like she's getting exactly what she needs. And I don't blame you for not going anywhere...mama needs to be by her baby! I hope she recoups quickly and that you ALL get to go home together soon.

  3. I'm so sorry to hear that critter girl is in the NICU!!! That just plain sucks, but so glad it's as minor as jaundice and not something more serious. So so so so glad to hear you're able to give her breastmilk since that will help the jaundice tremendously! Remember, pump like crazy for the 1st 2 weeks to set your supply high. Can't wait for the next critter update.

  6. SHit, Pie -- I'm sorry this can't be smooth and easy. The good thing is that (a) jaundice is a knowable and fixable issue and (b) you actually get to SEE her and HOLD her, and yes its not the same as being home but it's still pretty awesome.

  11. Did they give her an eye shade that has little sunglasses on it? Our baby boy was under the billi light and he looked so cute with those "shades." It's great that you can already breastfeed her. And you're pumping, too. Go Pie! (I want to know how your recovery is going... Are you feeling okay? Don't overdo it -- take care of you, too!)
