Thank you for all your comments on the last post, and for the reassurances from those that have been through this before. It really eased my mind.
I began the progesterone yesterday. I chose to do a PIO shot in the morning and one suppository at night (vs. 4 suppositories throughout the day). I give myself my own butt shots and I didn't want to be oozing from the suppositories all day long. Yuck. So 2 shots down, my tush is sore but otherwise ok.
I had to go in today to check my progesterone level. RANT ALERT - I am a little miffed at the far-away clinic for almost missing this. I was looking over the "calendar" they give, which is not really a calendar, but more of a list of all the stuff you inject, swallow and otherwise do to yourself over the course of the FET prep cycle. So, on the "calendar" every appointment (blood draw, u/s) it is written in bold, off to the side on the day you are supposed to go in. Easy to see.
But as I was looking at the meds I needed to start/stop after Saturday's green light phone call, I notice in regular non-bold print "check p4" embedded in the rest of the text. On Monday morning.
Not in bold. Not off to the side. Not easy to see.
So I email the nurse later on Saturday, which is always how I contact them (I like having everything in writing for later reference) asking if this is something I need to do. Because the weekend nurse that called me Saturday did not mention it, nor has anyone else. And clearly, no orders have been sent my way to actually get this test done on Monday morning.
Sunday rolls by, no response. I figure, hey, it can't be that important, right?
Well, this morning at 9:30am I get a response email saying, yes, I do need to get this done. I scramble to call the local clinic, and they tell me if I can get there within 45 minutes, they can run this test today. So I drop what I'm doing and hurry my sore tush on down there, pronto.
Grrr. I mean, if I had not seen this on my calendar, or not sent the email questioning it, do you really think this would have just slipped through the cracks?
I do.
I think it is just another example of having to be on top of your own care. Be your own patient advocate/billing specialist/case manager. Even at the best clinics, they miss things. They are busy, and have a bazillion patients. They miss things.
Hopefully not the really important stuff though. Fingers crossed about that.
UPDATED to add: My p4 was at 13.5 and they only want it somewhere above 6. Yay body! Way to absorb the butt shots!

I'm beyond impressed about shooting yourself up in the butt. I can kind of do the HCG shot, but I need help with the plunger.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about being on top of things, and nice work in catching the p4 check. I hope all is well and that the rest of this cycle goes very smoothly!!
I've got to be honest and say that I'm a little nervous about the disorganization at the Far Away Clinic! I am so glad that you noticed the embedded text and were able to have your P4 checked!
ReplyDeleteIt is so true that you have to be so vigilant abotu all the things you ahve to do during the cycle. It is like another ful time job. I am really really hoping this is it for you. I am excited for Friday. Please keep your hopes up - this is your cycle! I really beleive in FETs. Your body is ready!!
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, you are a rockstar for doing the PIO.. I am amazed!
So glad it all worked out.
ReplyDeleteGlad you caught that you needed that blood test and yea for the results. Shows you really do need to be your own advocate.
ReplyDeleteI totally know what you mean about the instructions in all caps. And single spaced! I almost missed something else on that page. Nor did I see the P4 but my nurse didn't let it fall through the cracks. I'm so sorry that happened. And for them to not answer your email from Saturday until today! I always email, too, but maybe weekend questions should be posed over the phone? Yay for good P4 results. Mine, as of today, was finally where they want it -- after 3 suppositories and the PIO every day now. Fingers crossed!!
ReplyDeletewe had a few of those "hey are we supposed to do something now" moments. Well Done Dr Pie. Ding Dong, "Dr Pie to transfer lab please" :)
ReplyDeleteGood job - you should get a discount from the RE!
ReplyDeleteWell said sister! I am a HUGE advocate of taking responsibility of your own health care (although I tend to call it "second guessing everything my clinic does"). Good for you for spotting it and even better that your butt has absorbed that pio so well!!!!! yay!!
