I returned to acupuncture this week. I went to a new place, for many reasons. First, the woman I saw before and liked moved to the far northern 'burbs, and I will not venture that far. Dealing with an hour of traffic after a relaxing treatment sort of defeats the purpose, no? Second, the man I saw around the same time (part of the same practice), I did not like him very much. And third, I did not want to go to the same places where I had been a year ago, when all hell hit the fan and I failed my first 2 IVFs. I just don't want to be reminded of that crappy time.
So I went to a new place, pretty close to my home. And I am in love.
This new place could be the prettiest office I've ever been to. For anything. It is on the top floor of a building in a sort of industrial part of town. Not much to look at from the outside. But you get off the elevator, and BAM! Lots of natural light, and a panoramic view of the city skyline that is just breathtaking. I swear, my blood pressure goes down just setting foot in the place.
My acupuncturist is a very nice lady, open, friendly and happy. They specialize in fertility, so I feel like I'm in good hands. And the treatment rooms are quiet, with nice water sounds and soft lighting. Very relaxing while I have needles in me.
Now, I don't know if acupuncture is truly beneficial, but I strongly believe in the placebo effect at the bare minimum. According to the far-away clinic, my uterus has good blood flow, so acupuncture is not really required for me. But I figure if I can be as relaxed, happy and good mojo'ed as possible going into the FET, it can't be a bad thing, right?

I totally know what you mean about the placebo effect of acupuncture. Your new clinic sounds amazing. Enjoy the needles!
ReplyDeleteI did acu for six months prior to our last cycle at CCRM. It wasn't for blood flow issues, but I figured why not? I found it very relaxing too. Glad you're enjoying the new place--it sounds beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds awesome. I'm with you on not knowing for sure whether I believe it really helps with the IVF, but I know it helps quiet the crazies in my head, and so that alone is worth it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the new needling!
I'm on the same side of the fence as you about acupuncture... not sure what its real benefits are but know it makes me *feel* great so that is enough of a benefit for me. I'm sure that being in the right relaxed mental state before your FET can only help things. Your acu clinic sounds WONDERFUL!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you found someone you like. I think being supported in a variety of ways - emotionally, spiritually and physically is pretty important in this whole crappy IF journey. For me, acupuncture provides a sense of holistic support that my clinical RE's office is missing.
ReplyDeleteHope your trip was wonderful!
